Sea Kelp? Yes, that slimy long, tangly stuff that you try to avoid the entire time you’re looking for a place to lay in the sand. Somehow, the guys at Nova Scotia Fisherman® ( http://www.novascotiafisherman.com/) have turned these slippery strands into a line of unbeatable products.
My roommate and I were grocery shopping at the Sobey’s on Elmwood Dr. in Moncton when we found these products on an end-cap by all the vitamins/ organic food. We were both reeled in by the East Coast logo and once we opened up the samples, we were pretty sure we had landed on a beach. There’s not really any other way to describe the scent of these products other than Hawaiian Tropic suncreen in the bay of Fundy.
I bought “Rescue Balm” and my roommate Melissa bought the lip balm, but I’m pretty sure we’ll have all 4 products next time we get groceries.
The “Rescue Balm” literally has nothing “Chemical-like” in it. The ingredients are olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, nova scotia sea kelp, castor oil, rosehip oil, aloe, vitamin E, lavender, tea tree oil, rosemary, geranium, and chamomile oil. I have ridiculously sensitive skin, so I’m generally terrified to put anything new on, but since there was nothing unnatural in this, I put it on my face (yes, my face!!) before bed. I woke up with unbelievable smoother skin and no new breakouts!
The lip balm is probably the best marketed cosmetic I’ve seen. The attention to detail is awesome! The packaging reminded me of a Push Pop, but without the gooey sugar running through the bottom! If you look at the sample, you might be alarmed by it’s brown colour, but don’t worry! You’re lips stay pink, but turn super moisturized and smell like heaven!
Needless to say, I am hooked on Nova Scotia Fishermans line of gender-neutral products!

If you’ve had a chance to browse the latest home decor news stands, you may have left either confused or singing “Think Pink” from Funny Face. Either way, nearly every cover has somehow incorporated a shade of pink!
When I first saw that pink was making a comeback, my mind instantly went to memories of floral pink sofas and pink lace-heart wallpaper (That was definitely in my kitchen at one-point). I was mildly horrified, but once I started checking out how designers were using pink, I warmed up to the idea! I’m not sure that I am quite ready to paint the walls in fusia, but accessorizing could definitely be fun!
These designers cleverly added a few splashes of glam to otherwise neutral palettes, which could be the best route to go. The more intense shades of pink are balanced with neutral furniture, while the muted shades are incorporated in patterned key features.
Grey has always been pink’s best friend. These soft tones pair really well with both modern and natural elements.
All of us know too much blush is rarely a good thing, but these powder rooms have just enough to look unique without looking too much like Barbie’s corvette! Plus, how “Adorable” is a painted pink door!

Meet Andrew Dunn–the kind of person we read books about how to be more like! This calm, even-tempered guy has been the location manager at Martell since 2010–which means he takes care of the customer from start to finish in Moncton, Mirimichi, and St. John. That may seem like a lot of time in the car, but it’s hardly traveling for this world adventurer. Andrew studied International Business in Cuba and has had plenty of adventures through the US and Europe. To top that off, he once hitch-hiked from Sussex to Calgary just for something to do! He ended up employed, but eventually came back to the coast!
Andrew is the father of 13 year-old Jeremi–an aspiring archeologist and 6 year-old Zoey who either wants to be a waitress or chef. Like any good Maritimer, Andrew loves lobster, so I suspect Zoey will be learning how to cook garlicky, buttery lobster first thing!
When asked if he had some sort of nickname, Andrew drew a blank. However, when Natalie mentioned her favorite Andrew moment, I immediately pictured Phil Dunphy from NBC’s Modern Family! The team was at a trade show in Vegas trying to get everyone together, but Andrew was no where to be found. Eventually he was spotted getting a foot massage at a nearby spa! We asked if it was okay to post; he laughed and said “it felt really good!”

This chic café–named after owner Clement Dugas– is located at 62 Elmwood Drive in the Sunny Brae community. With many corporate coffee shops opening in the city (which we all love), Clementine offers a refreshing take on classic café items. The menu is loaded with fresh, local food and beverages ranging from Chockpish Salad and Paninis to Cranberry-Pear Smoothies and Americanos. They do their best to shop as local and real as possible. While their speciality is espresso drinks, they (debatably) have the best coffee in town. They serve varying roasts of fresh ground, Just Us coffee (check Just Us out on our favourite things list!).
Clementine Café was originally located on St. George street, but due to issues with the building they were forced to leave. The café closed for six months and Clement was beginning to feel that he would not be able to reopen. He and his wife had moved to the Sunny Brae community and saw the potential for community development. When 62 Elmwood Dr. became available, they took a leap of faith and reopened. We’re definitely glad they did!
Fun Facts about Clement:
Q. If you could open a coffee shop in any city in the world, where would it be?
A. One time my wife and I were on vacation in Orleans, France. It’s a small city, about 100,000 and I remember thinking it’d be a great place to open a coffee shop.
Q. Do you travel often?
A. I’ve traveled Europe a few times. My wife is from the countryside in France, near Switzerland. It’s a small community, not like Paris or anything. So we always have a home-base there. Once we transformed a work van into a camper and traveled through Europe. We always went to public pools to clean up. It was cool because we were able to see a lot of locals.
Q. What inspired your decor?
A. We wanted to keep the same look we had at St. George, like with the wood panelling, but a lot of the inspiration comes from my travels.
